Nobel Banquet 1993

The bodice of the evening gown is embroidered with jet and sequins in a paisley-like pattern. A satin ruffle at the décolletage. The black and white skirt is woven in satin with an element of dupion thread. A matching red shawl finished with balls of flowers.

Jewellery

The Queen is wearing the Leuchtenberg Sapphire parure. The set consists of a diamond tiara with sapphires, pendant earrings with diamond-framed sapphires (originally hairpins), a diamond necklace with sapphires and nine pendant clusters. With this she is wearing a brooch of large diamonds, part of the jewels that the Empress Amalia of Brazil bequeathed to her sister, Sweden’s Queen Josefina.

Year 2006 marked 30 years since Silvia Sommerlath became Queen of Sweden. It was, among other events, celebrated with an exhibition featuring the evening gowns worn by The Queen to the Nobel Banquets 1976–2006.
